Palm Tree Stump Grinding
Have you cut down your palm tree, and now hoping to remove the stump? There are several ways to remove a palm tree stump, but stump grinding is the most reliable.
One method is to dig up the root system manually. Palm trees have an expansive root system that is not very deep into the earth. Palm tree root systems are composed of tons of small, fibrous roots that expand from the tree trunk, but only about 1 metre below the surface. They cover a large amount of areas instead of depth. Because roots do not regenerate, you can remove the main stump. If there are some roots left, you will not need to worry about a new tree growing from the remaining severed roots. With enough time and manpower, you could manually dig up the root systems.
Stump grinding is probably the most reliable method for removing a stump.
One option is hiring a stump grinding service to do the dirty work for you. Professional arborists and stump grinder services will have higher-quality equipment and training than you would have rental access to as a civilian. The professional service will leave you with a pile of wood shavings that you can either have removed or repurposed for flower beds or landscaping.
You can also rent your own stump grinder and get your own hands dirty. This may be cheaper than hiring a professional, and could be economical if you have multiple stumps to remove.
It is also possible to remove your palm tree stump with a chainsaw, but there are drawbacks to this method. Using your chainsaw in the dirt will dull your chain, and this doesn’t even consider the possibility of breaking your chain if there are rocks lodged in the tree stump. If you choose this method, you will need to dig around the stump so that you can cut it below grade. You will then cut criss-crossed slices across your stump until you have ground the stump down at least ten centimetres below ground level.
Stump grinding can be a fairly involved process, not to mention an expensive one. Instead of renting equipment or risking the possibility of damaging your own equipment, it may be best for you to call in a professional arborist. We at Dynamic Arborist are very experienced in stump grinding and would be happy to call you our client. Give us a call if you have any questions or would like to schedule a free assessment.
