Tree lopping is a quick, effective, and extremely easy way to create a certain shape or size for the palm trees on your commercial or residential property, but comes with a lot of downsides. 

Tree lopping is the trimming of branches to reduce or manage the shape and/or size of a tree on a property. Professionals that perform tree lopping typically cut tree branches to meet owner specifications without considering the health and overall future growth of the tree. It is a common tree trimming procedure, especially as trees grow more mature and their shape and size become more difficult to manage or maintain. Tree lopping procedures typically hinder the future growth of the tree, and can look unattractive if not done well. 

Especially in the case of palm trees, tree lopping is not an ideal method. Unlike most plants, pruning green fronds will not promote future growth. Cutting back healthy fronds will actually reduce the self-created food production for the tree, ultimately weakening it. You will occasionally need to remove healthy green fronds if they are creating blockage or hazards on the property. 

A good rule of thumb when it comes to trimming palm trees is that you shouldn’t unless it is absolutely necessary. Trimming is not ideal if you just wish to shape or alter your palm tree for cosmetic purposes.

This pretty much rules out palm tree lopping from healthy tree maintenance practices.
